Your learning. Your choice.
Language Sandwich offers learning on your device and optional online accounts. You can learn without creating an account. Online features require an internet connection and are available once the account service is connected.
Learning on your device
We save your learner name, completed lessons, saved position, words, practice choices, points and learning dates. The iPhone app stores this locally; the development Mac edition uses the local project drive; the hosted web edition uses your browser’s storage. Device or browser backups may include a copy.
Optional online accounts
If you create an account, Supabase processes your email address, sign-in verification, account ID, username, selected avatar, learning progress and notification choices for Language Sandwich. These are used to sign you in, save and restore progress, connect accepted friends and show achievements. The account service also processes connection and security logs to operate and protect the service. Your email and detailed learning history are not shown to other learners.
Friends and visibility
People who know your exact username can search for it and see your username and avatar, unless you turn off discoverability. A friendship requires acceptance. Accepted friends can see your total points, optional weekly ranking, streak, number of learned sentences, completed sections and recent milestones. Celebrations are reactions to those milestones. You can remove or block a friend and turn off friendly competition in Settings.
Email choices
Sign-in codes are account messages. Friend-request emails are not available in this beta. Friend requests appear inside the app. News about lessons and app updates requires a separate opt-in; you can withdraw it in Settings or through an unsubscribe link in a news email. Verifying an email does not subscribe you to news. The app does not send marketing emails to your friends or upload your address book.
Audio and permissions
Greek audio and lessons are included in the iPhone app and work offline. The hosted web edition downloads its lesson files. The app does not use your microphone, camera, contacts or location. No advertising or tracking SDK is included.
Exporting, resetting and deletion
You can export the selected learner’s progress. Your chosen sharing service handles that copy under its own policy. Section and full-progress resets remove the relevant learning and points; when signed in, these changes sync to your account. If two devices have conflicting changes, the app asks which copy to keep and retains a local backup first.
To delete an online account, use Friends & XP → Settings → Delete my online account and verify a fresh email code. This removes the active account, its online progress, friendships, settings and celebrations. The account’s cache is removed from the current device. Separately saved local learners, exports, copies on other devices and provider backups are not necessarily removed at the same time. Contact support for help removing remaining copies; provider backups expire under the provider’s retention policy.
Removing the iPhone app removes its local learning data but does not itself delete an online account. iOS may retain a sign-in credential in Keychain; sign out before removing the app if you do not want the device to retain it. Clear site data to remove the web edition’s local copies. We retain active online account information until you delete the account or request its removal.
